IBD Scottish Section Grants Sub-Committee Terms of Reference
1. Introduction:
The IBD Scottish Section has funds available to sponsor activities to further the aims and objectives of the IBD in Scotland. These funds, from previous Scottish Section fund raising activity (e.g. conferences), are held in IBD headquarters (Clarges Street) bank account, ring fenced for use by the Scottish Section. It is anticipated that the Grant subcommittee would have up to 10 % of the capital amount held in this account for use in any one year.
Activities eligible for funding by the Scottish Section grants subcommittee could include project grants, support for students and those taking IBD qualifications and travel grants. Further details on the background details of the IBD Scottish Section funds can be found in the IBD Scottish Section Committee minutes of 26 May 2009. (Note that funds used for normal section operating expenses are not covered by the subcommittee.)
2. Scope of Scottish Section Grants Subcommittee:
The Scottish Section Grants Subcommittee has the following functions:
2.1 To assess all applications for funding and to recommend to the IBD Section Committee which applications should be successful.
2.2 To identify the terms under which grants should be awarded, (e.g. funded research work reported at subsequent IBD events/conferences).
2.3. To promote or invite applications to the Scottish Section grant fund.
2.4. To ensure, in collaboration with IBD HQ, that funded work complies with the IBD's charitable status.
(Note a draft application form is included at the end of this document.)
Grant Subcommittee Structure
The Grant Subcommittee will be composed of 5 section members as follows:
- Chair - Section Vice-Chairman
- Immediate Past Section Chairman
- Current Worldwide Distilled Conference Chair (or nominated conference committee representative).
- Past Worldwide Distilled Spirits Conference/Programme Chair
- Section Secretary
Note: Membership of this committee would be expected to be limited to 2 years with the exception of the Section Secretary.
