Alan Barclay has been elected as the sixty second President of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling. Alan is Europe Supply Governance Director for Diageo and is based at their Technical Centre at Menstrie in Scotland.

On his election, the new President said "Talent is that vital resource that all businesses need if they are going to succeed in an increasingly competitive international environment. As the pre-eminent provider of brewing and distilling education around the world, the Institute of Brewing and Distilling plays a critical role ensuring that both companies and individuals have the skills needed to beat the competition. The world is changing fast and the IBD is continually developing and improving its offer to stay at the forefront of professional development. "

Simon Jackson, Executive Director of the IBD said. "Having been a brewer, maltster and distiller, Alan is probably uniquely positioned to help develop the Institute's strategy to ensure that we continue to satisfy the very diverse needs of our 4000 members around the world."

Charlie Bamforth, Anheuser-Busch Endowed Professor of Brewing Science at the University of California, Davis, was elected Deputy President and will become President in July 2014.
