Welcome to the Beer Academy

90 Minute Tasting Sessions

The Beer Academy, the UK's premier school of beer, has launched a series of 90 minute tasting sessions to give beer virgins and interested beer drinkers a colourful insight into the world of beer.

Aimed at people who like beer but don't know much about it, these events introduce drinkers to 'everything you need to know about beer' - its different styles and flavours, its world-wide history, what each ingredient brings to the brew, how to pair it with food, and much, much more.

The first 90 minute events started in March 2009. They have been so successful that the Beer Academy has now decided to hold them at The White Horse in Parsons Green, SW6 on a monthly basis. Participants will sample a variety of beers from across the globe, as well as learning a potpourri of anecdotes, facts and trivia about beer and its history:
- What's the difference between lager and ale?
- What is cask ale and how is it different from ales in keg?
- What is a bottle conditioned ale? And what other countries brew ales?
- What is mead, and do fruit beers really pre-date Julius Caesar?
- How long will beer last and how should it be stored?

Why not come and see for yourself and buy a ticket/s to attend one of the below!

At each event you taste 5 beers.

With a world of styles and flavours to choose from, beer tasting can be great fun. But it is important to use all your senses; hearing; vision; smell and taste. Hearing? Just think of that 'schh' as the bottle top comes off or the hiss and gurgle as a widget can is opened. Beer should look good. If you don't give your beer a sniff how can you pick out the sweet, toasty, malty and toffee nose a classic British ale; the citrus hoppiness of an IPA or the cloves and bananas leaping out of a wheat beer! And use a glass with plenty of 'headspace'.
