Hop Industry Committee
(UK)
The Committee meets periodically under the Chairmanship of Derek Lowe,
Head Brewer of Gales Brewery, Horndean. It is made up of representatives
from the major Breweries, the National Hop Association, the British Beer
and Pub Association, producer groups, hop scientists, growers and
merchants.
The Committee supports training and education initiatives concerning
hops and ensures that the joint needs of the Industry are met.
It promotes open discussion on new variety development, brewing trials,
agro economics and publication of relevant articles in the Brewer &
Distiller and Journal of the Institute of Brewing (JIB).
It plans and runs the prestigious English National Hop Competition at
which cups and diplomas are awarded to seven class winners. The IBD
awards £200 and a framed diploma to the grower of the best overall entry
as the Champion of the year.

Hop News Item
At this years Hop Awards ceremony, sponsored by and held at Charles
Wells Eagle Brewery, Bedford, the IBD Champion Hop Award was accepted by
Sir Richard Thornton of Hampton Estate Farms in Surrey on behalf of his
team who produced the best sample of Fuggles. |
