The Younger Brewers Network took over the March meeting on Monday
(19.3.7)..... |
 |
As you can see from the photos taken by
Elaine McCrimmon of BBPA (soon SABMiller) some older members enjoyed the
evening too. The technical programme was first class, not only for the
content, but also for the delivery, particularly since English was not
the first language for some of the presenters.
Dr. Javier Gomez-Lopez of Flavor-Activ gave us the Top Ten Taste Panel
Blunders and his solutions how to avoid them.
Paul Chlup from Heriot Watt introduced us to "The Flow Cytometer", and
explained how it could be employed as a QC tool for brewers.
Dr. Michaela Miedl, now with Coors Brewers, previously with Heriot Watt
and Weihenstephan, described a novel low temperature process for
Bioethanol production from wheat, and her work with Wessex Grain and
Green Spirit Ltd.
And Maria Junquera of BRi described her work investigating fusarium
toxins, explaining how the improved sensitivity of analytical methods
allows for both the closer analysis of their fate in malting and
brewing, and the imposition of ever lower limits! It was just one of
those presentations you felt so glad you had not missed, and it was
organised by Belinda Jennings from Adnams, the YMN representative on the
SS committee, and hosted by fellow committee member Steve Livens at the
BRi, Nutfield. |
