14 September 2007 Annual Banquet The Southern UK Section of the IBD will be holding its ANNUAL BANQUET at the Claverton Rooms, University of Bath BA2 7AY on the evening of Friday the 14th September 2007 at 7.00pm for 7.30pm. There will be a maximum number of 250 guests and tickets will be strictly allocated in order of application. Application should be made by the 30th August 2007 when we have to submit our final numbers to the university. The University of Bath has been selected for the convenience of our members in the Western part of our region and provides an ideal venue for banqueting, with plenty of rooms for those who wish to stay overnight. There is a pay bar which will stay open until 1am, given sufficient demand, and we are promised a sumptuous 5 course banquet. Wines can be pre-ordered from an extensive cellar, and of course Southern Section brewers will be presenting their finest cask ales for your approval. David Twomey is our guest speaker, replying to John Andrews, who will welcome guests on behalf of the IBD, and our Section chairman, Tim O'Rourke. 11 September 2007 Wednesday September 11th Time: Commencing 09:00am for 09:30am start & finish around 4pm Venue: Everards Brewery Ltd, Castle Acres, Narborough, Leicester The workshop is aimed at candidates taking the GCB examination and is based on that syllabus as well as providing a grounding for others seeking an introduction to fermentation and maturation Lecturers will be C S McCrorie B Sc M Brew FIBD and J B Round B Sc C Eng MEI M Brew FIBD assisted by P A Douglas B Sc M Brew The day will comprise of lectures and a visit to the fermenting and maturation areas of Everards brewery. Buffet Lunch and drinks will be provided by Everards brewery. There is a limit of 25 delegates for the Workshop and the cost is £58.75 per delegate including VAT. 08 September 2007 Saturday September 8th, time commencing 10:30am, Venue 1 Visit to famous traditional steam driven Hook Norton Brewery in the village of Hook Norton in Oxfordshire followed by lunch around 12 noon 2 Departing around 1pm for a pedestrain Treasure Hunt around Banbury approximately 8 miles away arranged by our Midland Section Chairman. Phil Douglas (alternatively you can wander around historic Banbury and/or do some shopping) 3 Meet up around 4pm at the George & Dragon Inn in the village Chacombe - 4 miles from Banbury where there will be a prize giving ceremony for the Treasure Hunt and either a Dinner or Barbeque (depending on the weather!!) after you can stay on for a few drinks or wend your way home. All members and their partners are welcome. There is a maximum number of 40 persons able to visit to the Hook Norton Brewery. The lunch is being generously provided by Hook Norton Brewery. The cost of the meal and drinks at the George & Dragon Inn will be paid for by individuals. 06 September 2007 Thurs 6th September 2007 at 6:30pm for 7:00pm. A visit to Quinn Glass - Quinn Business Park, Ash Rd, Elton, near Chester, CH2 4LF. The Visit will start with a presentation on the Site & the Plant, & followed with a tour of Bottling Production. A buffet will then be provided. This visit is sure to be popular so please let the secretary know of your intention to attend three days before the event for catering purposes guests are welcome. Great Northern

04 September 2007 Tuesday 4 September 2:00pm -5.00pm St Magnus Centre, Kirkwall DISTILLING - THE THEORY AND PRACTICE. Join distillery managers Alan Winchester and Stuart Pirie of Scapa and Russell Anderson of Highland Park for a short introduction to distilling followed by special comprehensive tours of the two distilleries. See the rare Lomond still and the spirit still windae at Scapa and floor maltings at Highland Park and get expert insight into the complex processes. 04 September 2007 Study Tour The Midland Section are organising a Study Tour of Belgium Breweries/Maltings from Tuesday 4 - Sunday 9 September 2007. Brief details are: The party will travel by coach from Burton, the Tour will probably be based in Ghent for five nights in double/twin room on B&B basis. There will be four days of visits (using the coach) to five breweries, a maltings and a keg manufacturer, there will also  be a day in Brussels - possibly during a local beer festival. Programme subject to finalisation. Cost is based on numbers but is likely to be £420 per person sharing a twin room (there will be a supplement for single room occupancy) and will cover: B&B, coach travel (Burton-Burton via the channel), entry to breweries/visits, beer tasting and two brewery tap meals.
