Examination Information

Over the past 2 years, a major revision of the syllabus and examination format of the IBD Master Brewer qualification has been carried out. Modules 1-4 of this examination will be made up of 2 papers lasting 2 hours each. Paper 1 will consist of multiple choice and short answer questions, samples of which can be found at the bottom of this page. Paper 2 will follow the old format with essay style questions, please view the Examiner's reports for previous year's papers.

Pass mark for modules 1 to 4 = 50%


Pass
 
Grade A =80% and over
Grade B =70 - 79%
Grade C =60 - 69%
Grade D =50 - 59%
Fail 
Grade E =40 - 49%
Grade F =30 - 39%
Grade G =less than 30%

It should be noted that for all modules 1 - 4, candidates must achieve a minimum standard in both papers; 55% for Paper 1 and 45% for Paper 2. Failure to achieve these minimum standards means the overall mark will be graded at E (or less, depending on total percentage attained).

For Module 5 - Project, there are three categories of assessment:
Distinction = 70 (or above) marks / 100,
Pass = 50 to 69 marks / 100,
Fail = <50 marks / 100.
