UK man named as the world's top new Master Brewer

Peter Hammond from AB InBev UK's Stag Brewery has been named as the top performer in the 2010 Institute of Brewing and Distilling's (IBD) prestigious international Master Brewing examinations. Peter's performance was such that he has also been awarded the J S Hough prize by the IBD. This is only awarded to candidates who achieve an exceptional standard.

How to Judge Beer

The first Beer Academy course on "How to judge beer" was a sell out when it was held at the White Horse at Parsons Green. The twenty two delegates included journalists, brewers, landlords, PR experts - and people who are just fanatical about beer. The course teaches delegates everything that they need to know to be a judge at a top beer competition - or just how to know and appreciate a great beer! From the techniques for assessing beer flavour, through raw materials and beer styles to the etiquette of being a beer judge.

Brewers and Distillers enter Chartered Territory

The Institute of Brewing & Distilling (IBD) has been granted a licence by The Science Council to confer Chartered Scientist (CSci) status to those of its members who possess a combination of high-level scientific knowledge and experience with a qualification equivalent to a Master's degree and who demonstrate that they are committed to "Continuing Professional Development" (CPD)
