It is proving efficient to have formed the young members sub-committee whose aim is to provide a better network for our young members, to improve communication and socialising across the wide geographical spread of our members in Scotland.
One of the new members of the sub-committee took the initiative and organised the first YM Scottish Section event. Andrew Watson organised an event at the end of February in two famous Scottish distilleries. Cardhu and Knockando Distilleries are both tucked away in some of the finest scenery in Scotland.
The second tour also guided by Andrew was at Knockando Distillery that is not normally open to the public.
The aim of the two tours was to inform to the YM about the differences between the distilleries and how these differences give each distillery its own unique character.
After the tours YM were invited to attempt to recognise these differences in both whiskies during a nosing. Andrew prepared an entertaining nosing session with four samples: Cardhu new make spirit, Cardhu 12 year old whisky, Knockando new make spirit and Knockando 12 year old whisky. The last sample was a special bonus from the closed Dallas Dhu Distillery. Homemade Scottish stovies followed the nosing to finish this inspiring event.
The number of young members present at the event provided evidence that young members in Scotland are enthusiastic about the industry and willing to network and socialise.
