Inaugural Event at North British Distillery
Michaela Miedl, The International Centre for Brewing and Distilling, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
The first event to introduce this initiative took place on the 19th May in the North British Distillery in Edinburgh, Scotland. A talk of the objectives and focus of the IBD Young Members Initiative in Scotland and an outline of possible future events by Michaela Miedl, Martin Polidano and Elliot Darlington started off the proceedings. After this a think-tank session was facilitated among the 27 young IBD members in attendance to gather opinions on what the Young Members Initiative should provide for young people in the Scottish brewing, distilling and related industries.
The IBD Young Members Committee in Scotland was able to source some valuable ideas from this lively discussion. After this more serious business the evening progressed with beer and whisky kindly donated by North British Distillery and a humorous pub quiz with Professor Graham Stewart (ICBD) as the quiz master.
The meeting came to a close with delicious buffet (also sponsored by North British). This event was a great success with a good turnout, lots of fun and a great opportunity to meet colleagues under 35 from brewing and distilling education and industry in Scotland. The next event will be clay pigeon shooting in East Lothian (date to be announced) and if you are interested in attending (IBD members and non-IBD members working in brewing and distilling or related industries under 35 years of age are welcome!), or if you want to contribute your ideas please contact your IBD Young Members Network representatives in Scotland.
