The award consists of a cheque for £1000. The award is presented at an IBD function. It is awarded to the best candidate based on examination results.

Awarded to the candidate with highest overall marks completing all 5 modules of the Master Brewer examinations. It is awarded to the best candidate based on examination results.
Further Details Regarding the Award:
A trust was established in 1985 by the University of Birmingham, the aims of which are to invest the donations received to provide income for the James S Hough Prize. The J S Hough is awarded by the University of Birmingham, on the recommendation of the IBD Board of Examiners, for the Master Brewer (formerly the Diploma) examinations for the most outstanding performance. The residue of income is to be used to promote the academic, or applied interests, of the past and present students of the British School of Malting and Brewing at the University of Birmingham.
