We currently have an exciting opportunity for someone with a keen interest in beer to join our team as a Brewer.

The role will be based at our brewery in Market Drayton, Shropshire and is a full time position that requires someone who will generally work 08.00 - 16.30, but must also be willing to start early and finish late on occasions and work weekends on a rota basis.

Founded in 2010 by Steve and Chrissie Nuttall, Joule's Brewery remains family owned. The company operates a growing business and supplies cask and keg beers to other brewers, wholesalers, free trade and our estate of 40 pubs, and was the proud winner of The Publican "Best Brewing Pub Company" award in 2015.

About the job
As one of our brewers you will be responsible for driving and maintaining high standards within our brewhouse and ensure that our beers are brewed consistently and well. Duties will include milling, mashing, wort production, fermentation control and monitoring, as well as helping the wider team to meet and exceed our customer's expectations.

About you
You will have worked in a brewery environment for several years and have passed or be working towards your brewing diploma, having attained at least one module. You will be completely comfortable around brewing recipes and their formulation and have one or two innovative ideas of your own. You will have a working knowledge of HACCP and realise the importance of keeping meticulous records.You will be a good team player, but not afraid to challenge current work practices, and always have one eye on the top job.

The package
A salary of £25 - £35,000 is offered, commensurate with skills and experience.

Experienced distiller and production genius required to run all things booze related at SWD HQ near Padstow, in north Cornwall.

We are looking for a detail-orientated, highly-motivated and practical individual to operate and manage all aspects of production at our internationally-award winning gin and pastis distillery in north Cornwall.
We're a small, fast-growing and ambitious distillery looking to take the world by storm with our Tarquin's Gin & Cornish Pastis.
Since selling our first bottles back in July 2013, we've won gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2014 and 2016 and the International Wine & Spirits Competition 2014
We now have listings with several hundred accounts across the UK - including 5 star hotels and Michelin starred restaurants - and export to a dozen countries.
With growth at over 100% year on year, we have huge plans for the next few years, and the future is looking bright.

Who are we?

Our distillery was founded by Tarquin, 28. A former City analyst who quit his desk job to do something more creative in life.
Though Marc, Tom, Josh and Joe might say the brains behind the operation is Athene, 32. A Chartered Accountant, diving fanatic and older sister to Tarquin.
We're a relaxed and hard-working team. We like to work creatively and efficiently in our company. There is no boardroom, there aren't any rules. If you have initiative, anything is possible.
Where do you fit in?
We are looking for someone to run distilling and operations in the distillery, based near Padstow in north Cornwall.
At the moment we have one 500 litre Green Engineering copper pot still and three 250 litre alembic pot stills. You will be in charge of all aspects of production of our flagship spirits. And there is room for NPD too.
What are the job requirements?
Our ideal candidate will have a degree (or technical qualification) and 2 years+ experience in/with:
- Distilling/Rectifying (or other Excise Trade).
- Quality Control, SALSA / BRC (or similar) accreditation.
- Excise Warehouse Record Keeping, EMCS, AWTD returns

Accountable to: Senior Engineer

Chief Aim of Role is to assist in the processes involved in making the beer.

The Main Tasks are:

  • Unloading and storing raw ingredients in the correct way
  • Preparation of plant and equipment
  • Maintaining and testing the temperature and quality of the beer
  • Measuring of ingredients
  • Monitoring various aspects of the brewing process
  • Cleaning the work area and sterilising equipment

You will have to work early mornings and conditions may be hot, steamy, noisy and aromatic. You may have to work outdoors in all weathers and there will be elements of standing and heavy lifting.

You will need to have attention to detail and a practical approach to work. Your level of fitness must be good and a responsible approach to health, safety and hygiene issues is vital.

Above all, commitment to the team that you are a part of and a flexible and reliable attitude to work is what you will need

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position offers a fantastic opportunity to join a thriving craft distillery seeking to upscale its production in the coming months, which is quickly establishing itself as one of the finest examples of craft distilling in the UK since opening in 2014. The successful candidate will be working as part of a small team and will be heavily involved in a range of tasks including:

Production of a variety of spirits (whisky, gin, brandy and whisky)

  • Bottling operations
  • Order processing
  • Exhibitions, tours and retail
  • Cleaning and maintenance

The company are seeking someone who is hardworking, confident and has a drive to succeed in the distilling industry. The nature of the position requires a significant amount of hands-on physical work as well as associated tasks such as record keeping which require close attention to detail and accuracy. As our distillery is located in the Cotswolds countryside your own transport would be essential.

QUALIFICATIONS
Previous employment in a production environment, brewing, distilling or associated industries is desirable.
GCSE grade A-D in maths and science desirable

This role will be based at our St Austell Head Office and is a full time position that requires someone who will generally work days, but must also be flexible and able to regularly cover for shifts between the hours of 5am and 11pm.

About The Job
The Quality Control Team Leader will play a key role in driving improvements in the laboratory and to supervise, support and manage the day-to-day operations of the QC/QA function.
In short, we'd like you to:

  • Support the two laboratory assistants in achieving the routine QC checks in a timely manner, covering for holidays, and to carry out a proportion of the daily routine laboratory analyses.
  • Represent the QC/QA function at regular Quality Review Meetings, involving reporting on quality trends and investigations, and to be the point of contact between the Technical Brewer and the laboratory.-Ensure the accuracy of the laboratory analyses, including overseeing ring tests, standards testing, operator training, calibrations, reproducibility and repeatability studies, etc.
  • Carry out the rolling microbiological sampling schedule.
  • Trial, implement and embed new analyses as required.
  • Oversee stock control of laboratory consumables and manage orders with suppliers.
  • Engage with relevant actions required by the Quality Management System, including internal auditing.
  • Ensure the laboratory is kept in a safe, clean, tidy and hygienic condition.

About You
You'll have relevant skills and qualifications, with plenty of experience to back up your application. You'll take pride in your ability to do your job well and you'll thrive in a team, environment. To be successful in this role you will possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • A-level science qualifications, with a relevant degree and brewing qualifications preferable
  • Lab management and QA experience
  • Microbiological experience and expertise
  • Experience in a production environment, preferably a brewery
  • Proven team working and mentoring skills

- At least 3 years' experience within a Spirits (or other food, drinks, or chemical) manufacturing environment.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

- Understanding of commercial implications of production & supply chain management
- Working knowledge/experience from within a bulk spirit transfer environment
- Knowledge of Continuous Improvement, manufacturing/ packaging, lean methodologies, process control and asset management

- Experience of capex projects
