In this session, we will be discussing the harvesting, intake, drying and baling of whole leaf hop with a brief review of the current hop market and the impact of Covid on the production and supply chain.
If you are taking the Diploma in Brewing exam, the session will help you review part of the learning material.
Rob Shieldon, Production Manager at Morris Hanbury, will describe in detail how the processing and packaging of T90 and T100 pellets is provided and will take an overview of how T45, Cryo, hop oils, and Tetra are produced.
Rob started his career in 1987 as a QA Technician. Following a secondment at Cannon Brewery Sheffield, Rob returned as Plant Microbiologist. Rob gained the IBD AME (now Diploma) qualification in 1993.
He moved to the Bass Technical Centre in 1994 to manage the technical set-up and integrity of external marketing trials and the administration of group product matching.
Whilst in the Technical Centre, he managed the Experimental Brewery helping facilitate NPD and Process / Packaging Development for key brands in the Bass Group. Following a period as Contract Packaging Manager (small pack) and a change of ownership to Coors, Rob moved into Burton Brewery as Laboratory Team Leader. Rob gained the Master Brewer qualification in 2001.
Rob returned to the Experimental Brewery in 2014, before moving to Manor Vinegar to brew ales as an ethanol base for Malt Vinegar, and later at Carlisle as Head Brewer / Site Manager at the Great Corby Brewery.
In 2019 Rob took a position as QA Manager at Lupofresh / Morris Hanbury, leading to his current role as a Production Manager.
