Foundation in Brewing defines beer and beer styles and provides a detailed overview of the raw materials used to make them. Each step of the brewing process from raw material intake to packaging is explained in clear and simple terms with numerous illustrations, animations and interactive learning tools.
The Foundation in Brewing is supported by one of the most interactive learning materials created by the IBD for an examination. It features videos and animations of the brewing process along with interviews with leading brewers and other brewing industry professionals.

What Will I Achieve?
This qualification demonstrates that you have learned about the foundations of brewing upon which further technical knowledge can be achieved as you progress throughout your brewing career.
IBD qualifications are the most widely recognised brewing and distilling qualifications in the world.
My Examination & How will I Be Supported?
This qualification is supported by a brand new online interactive learning material.
You will learn through a rich blend of engaging text and illustrations along with interactive games, videos and animations.
At the end of each unit, there is a downloadable summary to help you consolidate your learning. All the learning material is in one place and you can learn at your own pace from the comfort of your home.
In advance of your examination, a series of instructions and support mechanisms will be sent to you by email which will include the requirement to download an application for the IBD examination platform supplier.
Once you have followed these instructions you will be able to take your test on the computer you downloaded the Application onto. You take your test by logging into your account and connecting with your remote invigilator who will go through a series of checks with you before starting your exam.
What's next?
The Foundation in Brewing is the first step in a learning journey that can eventually lead you to become a certified Master Brewer. Once successful at the foundation level, the next step on this journey is the General Certificate in Brewing.
