IBD Cider Qualifications to go Online
5th March 2021, London, UK
The IBD’s Beer and Cider Academy has announced the launch of its ground-breaking cider courses which will be provided in an online format for the first time. Starting later this month, global cider expert Gabe Cook (aka The Ciderologist) will be running the first Cider Foundation course in conjunction with Crafty Nectar, the UK’s No.1 cider delivery service.
Over the last three and a half years, the courses provided through the Beer and Cider Academy have helped to educate13 Pommeliers – the pinnacle of cider advocacy, with many hundreds well on their journey. As the UK’s first cider sommelier training programme, these sessions are a must for anyone wishing to become a knowledgeable expert and passionate advocate for cider.
Gabe Cook, the creator and deliverer of the cider programme since its inception in 2017, said, “I am delighted to be able to start providing these courses online at a time when classroom learning remains impossible.” He continues, “The digital format is a great channel to reach people who wish to start or deepen their cider education wherever they may be in the country, all from the comfort of their own homes.”
The provision of classroom-based training for all courses – Cider Foundation, Cider Advanced, How to Judge Cider and the final Pommelier Assessment – are being earmarked for the summertime, in line with Government guidance on the reopening of the country.
Jerry Avis, IBD CEO, said, “In the last year, many people have been really missing the opportunity to learn about tasting and appreciating good cider. We’re really pleased to have Gabe Cook as a partner and to bring these cider courses online with an innovative offering in association with Crafty Nectar. I look forward to a time when we can enjoy face to face courses. In the meantime, this is a great way to fulfil the demand for cider education.”
