Learning goes online...

As part of a major refresh of the IBD’s learning material we are re-vamping both its content and method of delivery. The content is being updated so that it is fresh, relevant, full of new illustrations and short videos and loaded with self-assessment questions to help with your learning. The delivery method is moving to online Self-Directed Learning, which presents the learning material as a rich and interactive web-based course, which will allow you assess your own progress. The first course in this new format will be  the Diploma in Brewing Module 1 which will be released at the beginning of January 2019, and will be included in the price of the exam.

New online tutoring program for Module 1 only

In line with these changes, our popular distance learning courses will gradually be replaced with a new online tutoring support option, which has been specifically designed to help you excel in your professional exams, whilst being easy to fit into your busy lives. The first online tutoring program to be offered will also be Diploma in Brewing Module 1. Its key features include:

  • The course will run weekly for 18 weeks starting from the 14th January 2019;
  • The entire syllabus will be covered over this time;
  • You will work in small groups with your tutor who is both a technical expert and has been formally trained in online delivery;
  • You will practice typical exam questions, receive personal feedback from your tutor and get hints and tips to improve;
  • Tutor contact sessions are for an hour each week and allow for group discussion. These will be recorded so that you never miss out if you are unable to attend.
  • You will have access to a discussion forum, facilitated by your tutor, in which questions can be raised and answered.

The benefits include:

  • Motivation - We  understand it’s difficult to set time aside to study regularly – the encouragement of the tutor, a defined timetable and the support of fellow learners makes this easier,
  • Study support – it’s easy to feel cut off if you are studying by yourself. This programme makes it simple for you to ask questions, receive feedback and interact with others,
  • Paced learning – face to face tuition is great, but the experts tell us that trying to cram too much information into a short course is probably not very effective. Online tutoring combined with excellent learning material means you can learn at your own pace.
  • Better grades! – our motivation is to help you excel in your professional qualifications. Whether its managing a pass or cracking a ‘A’, our tutors aim to help you  achieve your goals.

Web Based Learning/Tuition for Module 2 & 3

This programme is available to anyone who has access to the internet. The programme will start in January and finish in May each year. Specialist IBD accredited trainers are assigned to each module. Students work through the learning material on line and are asked to complete 5 assignments. The assignments are marked, graded and tutor comments provided. Please note the assignment grade does not go towards your final examination grade but does provides feedback on knowledge and level of preparedness for the examinations. Candidates will have the opportunity to participate in video conferences where the tutors will give live lectures. There will be approximately 5 tutorials per module. Please note the tutors select the timings of the tutorials based on the most convenient time/s for the entire group. Due to these courses attracting a global audience, timings are carefully selected to try to suit everyone, but this may not be always possible. Please note we would highly recommend sitting one module per year.
