Tutor Guided Learning

Malcolm du Toit - Diploma in Brewing Module 1 Tutor

Malcolm has dedicated almost four decades of his professional life to brewing world-class beer and sharing his passion and expertise with new generations of brewers.

Malcolm worked for SAB, now AB InBev, for 36 years in various roles across Africa, from Brewing Manager to Brewing Consultant. During this time, he was also involved in the development of young brewers in Africa and later became Brewing L&D Manager for Africa, training young brewers and providing the technical proficiency to help meet the needs of the growing organisation.

He holds a BSc in Natural Sciences as well as a Diploma in Brewing, a post-graduate Diploma in Brewing from Heriot-Watt University, and achieved his Master Brewer status with the IBD.

As part of the initial group of international tutors that helped set up the IBD Tutor Guided Learning programme and tutoring in 2019, we are proud to have Malcolm bring his expertise as a tutor once again.

Nowadays, although “officially” retired from the industry, Malcolm, energised by his life-long passion to achieve excellence in brewing, still consults to several craft breweries.

When he’s not brewing in his home-built brewery, he also enjoys spending time in conservation areas, flyfishing for trout and playing golf on some great courses in Africa.
