Before corn was ever domesticated, agaves (Agave spp.) were one of the main carbohydrate sources for humans in what is today western and northern Mexico and southwestern US. Agaves (or magueyes) are perennial, shortstemmed, monocotyledonous succulents, with a fleshy leaf base and stem.

The World Brewing Congress convenes the best in brewing every four years. Designed to strengthen the science and technology of brewing, the congress also builds a robust global brewing network. The event is jointly hosted by the American Society of Brewing Chemists and the Master Brewers Association of the Americas, with active participation from the Brewery Convention of Japan, the European Brewery Convention, and the Institute of Brewing and Distilling.
