Calling all apprentices and early-career brewers!

Join us for a hands on brew day with two experienced brewers Mat Henney (Production Manager at St Austell Brewery) and Alex Simpson (Lead Brewer, Left Handed Giant Brewpub) in Bristol! We will start promptly at 7am, and lunch will be provided.

We will be brewing an Irish Dry Stout and it'll be racked into cask for the Annual Social of the Southern UK section at the Tower of London taking place on 27th of June!

Recipe development will be done prior to the brew day with Alex and Mat and an email thread will be formed to enable this. The email you use to book your ticket will be the email we will contact you on.

How to get there:

Please note that there is no parking on site, but a pay and display locally. The LHG Brewpub is about a 10 minute walk from Bristol Temple Meads station

Speakers:

  • Mat Henney is the Production Manager at St Austell Brewery and was voted by majority to become Vice Chair of the Southern section of the IBD at their last AGM in February 2024, having successfully completed his Master Brewer following positions with Murphy&Son and New Lion Brewery.

  • Alex Simpson has kindly offered to host and lead the brewday at his brewery, the Left Handed Giant Brewpub in Bristol. Alex has previously brewed at Dark Star and Harbour Brewing co. and will have experienced the Irish study tour prior to developing the recipe for this beer.

Why you should attend:

  1. Share experience from two experienced brewers with respect to quality in practice, wort production
  2. Small scale brewing - Collaborate and learn with other brewers
  3. Experience hands on brewing from mashing, hopping, to wort boiling and casting for fermentation
