Calling all early/mid career members and recent graduates in Brewing, Distilling and other relevant disciplines!
The Irish Early Careers Members Network invites students and those starting out in the industry the chance to make vitally useful contacts, develop skills and knowledge and kick-start their professional and personal development at the Irish Section's latest webinar.

Orla O'Sullivan, MSc, PGL&T DipCoaching, Careers Consultant - Head of Careers, Carlow & Wexford SETU
- Orla O'Sullivan is a highly accomplished Careers Consultant and Head of Careers at SETU Carlow & Wexford. With over a decade of experience in third-level education, Orla has held key positions at institutions like the National College of Ireland and Carlow College. Her expertise extends to guiding students in developing essential career management skills, preparing for interviews, and fostering professional relationships with employers.
Claire McCarthy, HR Business Partner for Beer and Brewing in Ireland Diageo
- Claire McCarthy, is an accomplished HR professional currently serving as the HR Business Partner for Beer and Brewing in Ireland at Diageo. Claire has contributed significantly to Diageo Ireland in her role as Human Resources Business Partner for the near 4 years she’s held this position. Building on the global experience of diverse industries and international settings including China, Europe and the America’s.
Mairead Griffin, Head of Talent Acquisition, Irish Distillers
- Mairead hold a Diploma in Marketing and has 20 years of experience in recruitment and talent acquisition working across multiple companies and consultancies in Asia and Ireland. She has been leading teams of up to 18 recruiters and is a fellow of the Institute of Personnel & Development. Mairead has been with Irish Distillers for more than four years heading the talent acquisition.
David Quinn, MSc Technical Director, Irish Distillers
- David Quinn's journey in the distilling industry began over four decades ago when he joined Irish Distillers in 1983, straight out of college as a biochemist working in the lab. Despite the distilling industry's struggles at the time, with only two distilleries on the island and Irish whiskey facing extinction, David found his niche in the technical aspects of distillation. He has thrived in the Lab and in Operations with positions such as Head Distiller, Head of Whiskey Science and now Technical Director of Irish Distillers. We are delighted to hear from this industry veteran.

- Jan Hodel-Keane, PhD, Product Owner Pilz Global Distillery Business Unit & Chairperson IBD Irish Section
Jan Hodel holds a PhD from Heriot-Watt University researching the flavour extraction in gin distillation using different distillation methods and a MSc in Brewing and Distilling from Heriot-Watt . His original background is mechanical engineering, flowed by working as a Product Quality Engineer with Corning in the Environmental Technology division being on the New Product Development team for Gasoline Particulate Filters. He joined the Pilz Global Distillery Automation team in 2022 using a best-in-class automation approach to developing a comprehensive "Automation Strategy" based on the analysis of the value drivers in customer business.
