The IBD Great Northern Section invites you to attend a seminar to gain an in-depth understanding of the technical aspects of brewing.

This event may be helpful for candidates studying towards their GCB and IBD Brewing Diploma 1, and brewers wanting to re-enforce their technical brewing knowledge.

The Great Northern Section AGM 2023 will be held after the seminar at the same venue, starting at 18:30.

Schedule:

  • The day includes small group tours of Roosters brewhouse with Head Brewer Oliver Fozard.
  • Leading experts in their field will give targeted presentations on the technical aspects of brewing.
    • Solve real-life brewing challenges by drawing on the knowledge learned from the day
  • The day will end with a Q&A panel hosted by Mark Slater, Head Brewer at Theakston’s

Please wear closed-toe shoes for the brewery visit, Hi-Vis will be provided.

    • Understanding essential water chemistry and water treatment options for different beer styles
  • Mike Benson, Technical Sales, Crisp Malt
    • Understanding a malt certificate of analysis and the impacts on your brewery and beer
  • Andrew Paterson, Technical Sales Manager, Lallemand
    • Getting the best from your brewing yeast
  • Will Rogers, Global Technical Director, Charles Faram Hops
    • Timing of hop addition and their effect on beer flavour
  • Alison Douglas, Director, Brewlab
    • Importance of good quality control in your brewery, whatever it's size or budget. There will be an opportunity gain some practical skills on the day!
